University Project: Final Portfolio Project

“How can the design of inpatient healthcare environments be optimised to enhance the experiences and overall well-being of individuals in the late stages of dementia, as well as improve the efficiency and effectiveness of dementia care services?”

This project is in pursuit to elevate healthcare experiences. Aiming to design and establish state-of-the-art dementia care facilities that prioritise the well-being, dignity, and quality of life of individuals with advanced dementia. Through thoughtful and innovative design, seeking to create a nurturing environment that supports residents in their journey of recovery and promoting their physical, emotional, and social health.

With a deep understanding of the profound connection between environmental design and the well-being of individuals with dementia, which was discovered through my dissertation. The primary goal to create a space that fosters familiarity, comfort, and engagement. Integrating evidence-based design principles, therapeutic interventions, and user-centred approaches to ensure that every aspect of the facility is tailored to meet the unique needs and preferences of the residents.

Through collaboration with healthcare professionals, caregivers, families, and experts in dementia care, the aspiration is to set new standards of excellence in dementia care facility design. This project is not only about creating a physical space but also about nurturing a culture of compassion and understanding that celebrates the humanity and dignity of individuals living with advanced dementia. Whilst simultaneously fostering a culture of empathy, respect, and dignity among residents, staff, and families, creating a supportive community where everyone feels valued and empowered, within the town of Poole.

Creating a transformative environment that enhances the lives of residents, empowers caregivers, and inspires others in the field of dementia care. Making a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by advanced dementia.
